Crested Soultz Pigeon: Characteristics, Uses & Breed Information

The Crested Soultz pigeon is a breed of domestic fancy pigeon which was developed over many years of selective breeding.

It is also known by some other names such as Huppe de Soultz, Soultzer Haube and Cuffia in Soultz.

This breed and other varieties of domesticated pigeons, all are descendants from the wild or feral Rock pigeon. The Crested Soultz pigeon breed was developed in the early 1800s in France.

It is actually a creation at Soultz, in eastern France. And the breed is said to have been produced from a cross of Priest and Hessian Pouter. Read some more information about the breed below.

Crested Soultz Pigeon Appearance

The Crested Soultz pigeon is a medium to large sized bird with very beautiful crest over their head. It has an upright appearance with broad, full and well-rounded breast. These birds are clean-legged, and their legs are usually of red color.

The breed appears in many different color varieties. The common color varieties of these birds are barred, barless and powdered blue in checkered.

Average live body weight of the mature male Crested Soultz pigeon is between 550 and 600 grams. And average body weight of the females vary from 450 to 500 grams.


The Crested Soultz pigeon is mainly raised as an exhibition bird in it’s native area. It is also used for general or utility purpose.
