The Dutch Landrace pig is an old standardized breed of domestic pig from the Netherlands. It is also known by some other names such as Netherlands Landrace and Dutch: Nederlands Landras.
It was actually developed from the native landrace of pigs of the area, crossbred with strains from neighboring countries.
Currently the breed is found mostly in the east, north and south of Netherlands. The ‘Central Bureau for Pig-breeding‘ in Nijmegen, serves as the breed registry.
The Dutch Landrace pig is considered as ‘a meaty and efficient breed of pig‘. It is unusually responsive to the halothane test, which can be used to weed out individuals with low projected survivality and meat production.
Along with the availability in Netherlands, the breed is also exported to some other countries especially to Japan and Spain. Read more information about the breed below.
